IMPORTANT FEATURES IN A SAFERWALKING SYSTEM

  • Get the person to wear it.
  • Locate the wearer when you need to.
  • Know they have got home safely and have not left at night.
  • Be able to listen and talk to the wearer when needed.
  • A battery that can last between carer visits.

WEARABILITY

  • With Vega we needed to make the device wearable 24/7/365.
  • Make it waterproof for bathing, showering and swimming.
  • Create wearable batteries so we could charge on the move.
  • Give the option of different ways to wear it.
  • And we also wanted the device to have a purpose ...

LOCATION

  • You can locate the Vega in several ways.
  • Assisted GPS - allows the device to gain an accurate location quickly
when outdoors or near a window.
  • GSM/GPRS - Positioning from triangulation of mobile phone towers.
  • RF - Allows the Vega to be located by proximity to a “home base”.
  • Audio location using GSM mobile phone.
  • All in a device that weighs 57g and is fully waterproof.

AT HOME MONITORING

GPS is a great technology - but it doesn’t work indoors.
Wearers spend most time at home.

Our Solution:
A Radio Home Base which when seen tells the control centre.
We can create an automatic alert if not at home between certain hours.
We realised that some wearers went to day care - so we developed
multiple bases for each device.

THE REASSURANCE OF A FAMILIAR VOICE

  • The carer can be the calming influence in a crisis situation, so we need to involve them as much as possible...
  • Alarm centre can get the Vega to call the Carer.
  • We used the highest quality speakerphone so the carer could hear the wearer and be heard.
  • The carer can view live positions on a smart phone or PC if they are going to meet and recover the wearer.

A HELP BUTTON...WHEN YOU NEED IT

Even those with advanced conditions can often use a ‘Help’ button that is similar
to a pendant ...
Can turn off if not needed

BATTERY LIFE

Depends on how long person is out of the house each day:

  • If the wearer is out for 6 hours per day then just over 2 days.
  • If the wearer is out for 2 hours per day then over 3 days.
  • Charging times can be as low as 1 hour per day.
  • Battery low warnings by SMS and email.
